"The Dairy Culture of Cyprus: History - Traditions - Folklore"
October 25, 2021
The publication of "The Dairy Culture of Cyprus: History - Traditions - Folklore" is perhaps the most important study ever done in Cyprus regarding the history of our Dairy Culture and its many manifestations in our daily lives, for centuries.
The publication was made through the collaboration of the Cyprus Food Museum and Charalambides Christis and is the product of documented systematic research work by many experts.
The publication is prefaced, among others, by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism.
On the occasion of the completion of the publication, the Chairman of the Board of Charalambides Christis, Mr. Alexis Charalambides and the President of the Cyprus Food Museum, Dr. Chrystalleni Lazarou, recently visited the Ministers, to express their gratitude and to discuss the highlighting dairy culture more broadly.
One of the immediate steps is to promote the publication to the diplomatic missions of Cyprus for further utilization, as well as the inclusion of the element of dairy culture of Cyprus in the UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
It was also agreed that this valuable publication be communicated to the educational staff of Cyprus so that the knowledge it contains reaches the young people of our country. At the same time, the elaboration of a virtual museum with a pedagogical program for primary school children was discussed, based on the book "Dairy Culture of Cyprus", while the registration of new dairy products as PDO / PGI products with proven origin such as Flauna cheese, halitzia and anari was a new chapter for discussion.
The publication offers an excellent "raw material" to prepare comprehensive and popular booklets for promotion in foreign trade fairs and is the occasion to make use of the Cypriot brands associated with the dairy culture of Cyprus and will be awarded by the Cyprus Food Museum.
The historical study, "The Dairy Culture of Cyprus: History - Traditions - Folklore" with its excellent texts and rich photographic material, marks a new era in the emergence of the tautological cultural elements of our island.
